There's More to the New Heath Ceramics Than Great Cult Coffee

Heath Ceramics

A new coffee kiosk hardly makes a drop in San Francisco’s well-caffeinated pool of options, but when legendary design house Heath Ceramics partnered with beloved Blue Bottle Coffee, it gave us serious jitters. But, of course, the new location is much more than just a showcase for artful lattes—even if they are served in glorious handcrafted mugs.

The NWBLK: A Mission Warehouse Changing Retail As We Know It

The NWBLK

When a man invites you to share a couple samosas before revealing the details of a new top-secret retail concept, you oblige. After all, finding him and this place was no easy task. It took a circuitous path of contacts offering only vague descriptions of a gallery slash boutique slash workshop slash design incubator slash event space slash food truck lot. And so it was, over Indian food, that Bob Wilms finally began to shed light on the obscure amalgam that his team is calling The NWBLK (that is, “the new black,” OBV).

While one of the season’s most popular ingredients, kale’s bitterness can stump even the most dedicated home cooks. But Chef Alicia Jenish’s quick brine turns this nutrition-packed leafy green into a delicious entrée or side. Her seasonal versions have been a menu hit since she took the helm at Grand Café last fall. All hail kale!
