Visitors to the North Lake Tahoe area now have one less chore to do before being able to enjoy a weekend of snow skiing or boarding: Grocery shopping. A new grocery delivery service is now available in the areas of Tahoe Donner and Donner Lake in Truckee to Incline Village and down to Tahoma on the West Shore. This also includes properties at the North Shore ski resorts of Squaw Valley and Alpine Meadows, Northstar, Diamond Peak and Sugar Bowl.
With more than four feet of snow in the Tahoe area so far this winter, a trip to this ski haven is in the weekend plans of many Bay Area residents. But you have to ask yourself what you want from your winter trip to Big Blue. Lake Tahoe has two faces: The touristy, party scene of the South Shore and the more quiet, nature oriented scene of the North Shore. What's your flavor?
Our night at the Basecamp Hotel in South Lake Tahoe took place just before a massive snowstorm was due to blow in. Skiers, boarders, the hotel staff and even the lake itself seemed to be holding its breath for the white gold to come down from the sky. This 50 room former motor lodge has been crafted into a warm and cozy place to wait for — and hang out in during – a winter snowstorm.
The three ski villages in Lake Tahoe are now decked out for the holidays: Squaw Valley, Northstar and Heavenly will be having a full two weeks of celebrations for the holiday season and scheduled events will include skiing with celebrities, fireworks, parties, and of course, Santa and Shaun White on the slopes.
While some visitors to the Tahoe slopes envision themselves as the next Lindsey Vonn or Shaun White, many of us really just want to sit on our butts and fly down a mountain. It's a good thing there are several great places to go tubing or sledding up in Lake Tahoe — and some of them are free.
Who hasn't dreamed of waking up in a cozy cabin in the woods with snow falling outside the window? These tiny Tahoe cabins might just be the ultimate in cocooning and are available for rent on your next trip to the mountains.
