Street Style Report: Opposites Attract at Rand+Statler, in Hayes Valley

SF Street Style:

While cruising the latest wears at Rand+Statler, we spotted employees and local band members, Jordan Deherrera (left) and Alex Gair (right), in two very different looks. Jordan, in his spiked leather jacket and chunky black shoes, played opposite Alex, in a laid-back tropics look, complete with a straw hat and sockless loafers.

Seven Favorite Things: Department 17

Department 17 is off to a big year. Co-owned by local boys, Nelson JangDaniel Lee, and Adrian Putra, the indie menswear retailer kicked off 2012 with a strong move from their Russian Hill digs into a larger, more shopper-friendly space in Hayes Valley

With the cushy square footage, the boys beefed-up their quality-first brand list, adding fresh faces like Reigning Champ (#4) of Canada, and Kitsune of Paris, to the roster.

We spotted island-hip shop girl, Kanoe Irvine, rocking lace shorts and western denim on a sunny day in the Marina. Kanoe, who's originally from Kailua, Hawaii, studies graphic design at the Academy of Art University, and works as a sales associate at LF Stores

Seven Favorite Things: Last-Minute Mother's Day Gifts from Viv & Ingrid

Viv&Ingrid's mission is simple:  inspire happiness through beautiful jewelry. Now, doesn't that sound like the ideal Mother's Day gift?

Look of the Week: Draw the Shades

Look of the Week: Draw the Shades

Jack Nicholson once said, "With my sunglasses on, I'm Jack Nicholson. Without them, I'm fat and 60."

Now, we're not saying you should wear your sunglasses 24-7 (like Jack), but we definitely support the idea that the right pair of shades can really make a look. The trick is finding that perfect pair -- a comfortable fit and classic style that's neither too trendy nor dated.

SF Street Style: A Colorful Cinco de Mayo Look on Russian Hill

SF Street Style: A Cinco de Mayo Look on Russian Hill

Jessica Martinez's vibrant Cinco de Mayo look caught our eye at a rooftop fiesta on Russian Hill.  First, we were taken with her brilliant green tank. Then, we noticed the lovely red flower againt her dark hair. Finally, we fell in love with her kitschy tassel necklace and blue toe-nail polish. The whole look was fun, simple, and the perfect mix of traditional-meets-modern for a sunny, SF-style Cinco de Mayo.

Seven Favorite Things: Taylor Stitch

Oh, to be loved.

There's just no two ways about it -- we love Taylor Stitch. The local design company and Mission boutique (formerly The Common), has built a small and very dapper empire on classic designs, quality craftsmanship and custom tailoring.

Look of the Week: Party Dresses for the Festive Summer Ahead

We're guessing your calender looks a little something like this:  Kentucky Derby party this weekend, Mother's Day next weekend, wedding after wedding, and, heck, let's throw in a graduation and birthday or two...Whew!

Even if you're not the mother, bride or graduate, you're still going to need a few key dresses to get you through this celebratory season. We're thinking bright colors, floral prints, and modern-classic silhouettes should do just the trick. Here are our picks to help you look your (festive) best all summer long.

Meet Chase Hoblitzell, art installer for Ship/Art by day, and badass vintage baseball player by night.

Chase plays left field and shortstop for the Berkeley Monarchs in the Bay Area Vintage Base Ball league. We caught up with him, decked out in his legit old-school baseball gear, before heading off to a game in San Jose.
