One dress + six accessories = a slew of fun looks. For this weekend's SF Cocktail Week, we'll focus on just two: day and night. For more casual events like today's East Bay Showdown, or Sunday's Belvedere Bloody Mary Brunch, go for the funkier day look. For fancier soirees like tomorrow's Barbary Coast Bazaar, or Saturday's The Legend Awards, doll-up for a glitzier evening look.
All summer long the Levi's Mobile Bike Shop has been parading around the country, stopping in select cities to set up a pop-up bike carnival, in celebration of the Commuter Series by Levi's (available at Urban Outfitters). The crew has traveled a long way from NYC, but they're finally here -- the hometown celebration starts this afternoon at Levis HQ.
I spotted Liz Jackson yesterday, first at Flipper's, then at CAPSULE in Hayes Valley. And, well, I'm pretty sure I have a girl crush. Liz was sporting this perfectly androgynous outfit and had the attitude and smile to really carry it off.
This look comes down to the details. I love the layered, open henley and shirt collars, the varied sleeve lengths, the thick suspenders, the blue-on-blue, the messy hair -- basically the whole look, right down to white rubber band bracelet, and random rocking chair tat.
1. The Bold Italic Print Launch Party + Pop-up Shop at Gershoni Creative (785 Market St.), Friday September 15, 8pm, $20
Tonight, our friends at The Bold Italic are celebrating the launch of their quarterly magazine with an epic penthouse affair. At the center of it all, a pop-up shop will showcase 10 designers including: Anfzer Farms, Cary LaScala, Yellow Owl Workshop, In Haus Press and Kyler Designs.
2. Betsey Johnson Live at Her New Boutique Launch Party (33 Grant Ave.), Saturday September 17, 4pm-6pm, Free
Betsey Johnson. Live. Glitter mural. Oh, hells yes. That's right, folks -- the spunky little rock-star designer will be in the flesh, celebrating the launch of her new, multi-level SF boutique. Word has it, Betsey will be performing a live mural painting with glitter cans galore! This is one neon-meets-leopard-print-sparkle fest you don't want to miss.
With row after row of booth after booth, shopping at design festivals can be pretty overwhelming. Heck, browsing Etsy online is daunting enough.
But wait...shopping is supposed to be fun, right? Well, to help ease the pain, we filtered through the full load of 130 designers and selected our top picks for the CAPSULE Urban Air Market, this Sunday in Hayes Valley. It's simple -- look through the gallery, mark your favorites, grab a cone at Smitten, and get your shop on.
Local stylist Alix Jiang, caught outside Four Barrel (my new favorite hot spot for shooting Street Style), enjoying a nice iced coffee. Adorable bowl-cut and statement glasses aside, the way her breezy parachute pants moved is what really caught my eye.
This Week in Fashion: Shotwell Says Goodbye, McIntoshFry at MAC, Retrofit Turns 1 + Styling the Modern Man
1. Last Tuesday, Holly and Michael Weaver, the style powerhouse behind Shotwell, announced some very happy and very sad news. The darling duo is expecting a baby boy (that's the good news!), and will be moving back to Pittsburgh. That means, Shotwell will not be reopening -- a great loss for SF. As bummed as we are to see them go, we wish the three of them (four including their pup, Friday) all the best.
Ladies and gents, Fashion's Night Out is tonight. It'll be a night of epic mingling, partying and, of course, shopping. Since we're betting you'll be in and out of fitting rooms, opt for an easy, printed dress and minimal jewelry (in our experience, necklaces tend to tangle and earrings fall out). Also, do yourself a favor and keep your purse light – you'll be hauling shopping bags soon enough! And for the ultimate comfort-meets-mad-style footwear, try a pair of architectural cork wedges.
Last week, our friends Grant Marek (above), editor of Thrillist SF, and Elliot Tomaeno (below), director of communications at Enloop, received mini makeovers to preview the new "Geek-IS-Chic" lounge at this year's Styling the Modern Man (Thursday, 9/15).
Next Thursday, STMM atendees will be invited to watch as local tech hot-shots undergo similar transformations, and get decked out in the latest Levi's duds.
