Most beer is never better than the day it leaves the brewery, but certain beers, properly kept, improve with age. As we shift away from the strong, dark beers of winter to spring’s lighter fare, it’s time to make one last run to the beer store and stock up on a few select heavies to store away for the future.
You can find it around town for the next few weeks, but it’s not like any brew you’ve ever had. It’s called Kvasir, and it’s the latest hybrid recreation in what’s known as the Ancient Ale series from Dogfish Head Brewery, which is known for making off-centered ales for off-centered people.
Thursday, December 5 marks the 80th anniversary of the 21st Amendment, which repealed Prohibition, and 21st Amendment Brewery is hosting a celebration. A parade starts at 4 pm in Justin Herman Plaza and ends at 21st Amendment Brewery on 2nd Street at Brannan, where an after-party will roll till 9 pm.
While shopping for the turkey and trimmings you will likely ponder what wines to pair with the feast. But rather than scan through the Savignon Blancs and Rieslings again this year, wheel your cart to the craft beer aisle for a change.
