The September Issue—the documentary about the making of Vogue’s biggest fashion issue ever in 2007, a four-pound tome that couldn’t be squeezed into a mailbox—debuts this weekend. Although tonight is the SF premiere, the film’s already been showing in NYC, timed well with Fashion Week. The movie’s release also has a darker sense of timing—magazines across the country are in trouble and being forced to reinvent themselves.

At long last, the moment all of us fashionistas have been waiting for! The September Issue hits theaters today. Skip out of work early (after all, it's Friday) and brave long lines at the Metreon for larger-than-life Anna Wintour action like never before. And if you thought her appearance on Letterman was scary, just wait until you see her on the big screen.

Hey, did you get your tickets? The Tobi blog works on selling tickets to the summer gun show in a recent post about the current dudes-in-tank-tops trend. The disturbing byproduct of this trend? Unsolicited armpit hair sightings outside of trips to the beach or your weird uncle's house. Ew.

Why Fashion Still Matters -- Sally Singer, Fashion News and Features Director, Vogue

Vogue is considered the world's most influential fashion magazine, but what role does this publication play during this time of upheaval? When "recessionista" has replaced "fashionista" as the model to emulate, how can fashion magazines, designers and retailers stay relevant?
