We Wanna Be Friends With: Victoria Smith of sfgirlbybay

By

Our city is chock-full of interesting people and wild personalities. Overwhelmed by the coolness? Every week we'll pick one standout local we'd love to be friends with to answer seven essential questions about their life in San Francisco.

Wondering who's always snatching up the best jewels at flea markets, gallivants around the city snapping perfect pics with her pup Lucy, and has a Noe cottage rental you only thought existed in dreams? That would be Victoria Smith of the design blog sfgirlbybay

Since 2006, Victoria has documented the "modern bohemian" life most of us would kill for. She writes about a mix of her own home, adventures in San Francisco, and design gems from around the web and world. Her eye is impeccable and her photographs inspiring–so naturally, we couldn't wait to catch up with her for our We Wanna Be Friends With Q&A

1. What neighborhood do you currently call home? Would you ever move or are you happy in your 'hood?

I live in Noe Valley and I just moved in November, so I’m pretty happy here. Although my dream neighborhood is Upper Mission – anywhere near Liberty Street with views of the city.

2. What's your hands-down, absolute favorite thing to eat in SF?

Zuni Café is the perfect place to share a family-style, early Sunday supper with friends. Share a meal starting with oysters on the half shell, a Caesar salad, pom frites, and of course, the Zuni Chicken and a bottle of Sauvingnon Blanc.

3. What's your perfect night on the town?

Probably the Final Friday Night Mixer at Makeshift Society with good friends, followed by dinner somewhere in the neighborhood like Rich Table and a nightcap at Two Sisters Bar and Books.

4. When you need a low-key afternoon, where do you go for down time?

I’m always in need of a low-key afternoon – life is hectic. I head to Fort Funston every weekend with my dog Lucy for a hike and a perfect afternoon would be followed up with brunch at Outerlands and a stop at the General Store.

5. What's your favorite place to go on a day trip from the city?

I quite like heading somewhere warm, like Calistoga’s Indian Springs for a spa day and few hours floating in the Olympic-sized, 80-degree pool.

6. Quick-fire round:

Burrito or Burger?

Burrito.

Presidio or Golden Gate Park?

Presidio.

Bi-Rite or Mitchell's?

Ouch. Ummm, Mitchell’s. I walk there from my house.

Bike or MUNI?

Bike.

Fort Mason or Dolores Park?

Dolores Park. Although I do love the community garden at Fort Mason.

The Independent or the Fillmore?

The Fillmore.

Baker Beach or Ocean Beach?

Ocean Beach.

7. Three words that describe your life in SF?

Lucky, happy, grateful.
