Week in Food: Almanac Beer Pop-Up, New Taste Marketplace, Lamb Jam, and more

Starting at 6 p.m., Almanac Beer is celebrating their brewery launch at Shotwell's Bar with pastrami dogs from Wise Son's Deli, Nosh This' beer caramels covered in chocolate, and Kitchen Sidecar's beer-braised carnitas taco. Oh, yeah, and there will be beer: Almanac's 2010 Vintage Blackberry Ale and Sour Summer 2010. 3349 20th St. (at Shotwell)

Also, Pac Heights restaurant The Elite Cafe is opening up new private wooden booths for two. Through August 13, diners can order a special $30 prix-fixe anniversary menu that's heavy on New Orleans flavor: Think shrimp and scallion johnnycakes with a roasted red pepper relish and lime cream, seafood gumbo with shrimp, scallops, oysters, and crabmeat, beignets, and bananas Foster. 2049 Fillmore St. (at California)

The uber-popular New Taste Marketplace is happening again, starting at noon. As usual, the market is a fundraiser for The Food Pantry. To see who's going to be there, check out the list of vendors here. 500 De Haro St. (at Mariposa)

Sunday, July 17

If you're a lamb fan, check out the Golden Gate Club's annual Lamb Jam. Don Watson and SPQR chef Matthew Accarrino will do a butchery demo, and John Fink of The Whole Beast is cooking a whole lamb. Competing for the best lamb dish are, among others, Antelmo Faria of Tacolicious, David Bazirgan of Fifth Floor; Jeffrey Lunak of Morimoto Napa, Jessica Gorin of ThirstyBear, Ola Fendert of Oola Restaurant. 135 Fisher Loop (at Infantry Terrace)

Wednesday, July 20

Social Kitchen & Brewery celebrates the anniversary of its Brewmaster’s Dinner Series with a meal prepared by guest chef Tyler Morrish, of Osteria Coppa. The menu includes a wild arugula salad paired with L'Enfant Terrible, a Belgian-style table beer; chilled white gazpacho paired with Simon Saison, a Belgian-style farmhouse ale; chicken breast or ratatouille with Easy IPA, an American-style ale; lemongrass panna cotta paired with White Thai Affair, a Belgian-style golden ale spiced with lemongrass and galangal.
