What: San Francisco's Main Library is turning 20 this weekend and they're celebrating with Bandaloop, a group that has pioneered vertical performances! Raise a glass to the next 20 years of the library by watching insanely talented performers hang off the side of the building. There will be food and refreshments, along with musical performances. Sounds like a typical San Francisco afternoon to us.
When: April 18th, 12:30pm (additional events leading up to the 18th are available here)
Where: Main Library: 100 Larkin Street (Civic Center)

What: If you've been complaining about the rain lately (even though you know it's a good thing), consider this silver lining: it's turned the normally beautiful Botanical Gardens into a full-on tropical paradise! Thanks to copious amounts of rain water, flowers have bloomed all over the gardens, with species from Chile to Mexico to Australia to South Africa in full bloom. Take a stroll through the floral wonderland while it lasts.
When: April - May
Where: Botanical Gardens: 1199 9th Ave. (Golden Gate Park)

What: If you're like us, then there's a part of you that longs to be able to make the kind of cocktails you find in your favorite bars in your own home. Spoonbar is hosting an "Exploration of Sours" to teach the layperson how to make these deceptively easy cocktails. Lead by legendary bar manager Alec Vlastnik, learn how to make traditional sour style cocktails, and pick up some innovative tips and techniques that you can use to wow your guests at your next party. You'll even get the chance to channel your inner Tom Cruise (the cocktail, that is) and try your hand at mixology. Tickets are $50.
When: April 17th, 3- 5pm
Where: Spoonbar: 219 Healdsburg Ave, Healdsburg

In an attempt to help combat those stats, Krav Maga Training Center is hosting a free seminar to offer tips to men and women on how to be aware of their surroundings so they can avoid a potentially life threatening encounter. The instructors will also be teaching basic methods of self-defense.

What: Did you know that April is National Letter Writing Month? Hand-writing letters is probably a foreign concept to most of us, but admit it: you get a thrill when you get something in the mail that isn't junk or a bill. Why not pass that thrill along? Rare Device is celebrating this almost-forgotten art form by hosting a letter-writing social. If you're a letter-writing aficionado, bring your own stationery and writing tools and just enjoy the company of others while you perfect your penmanship. If you're a neophyte, fear not: Rare Device will be supplying some gorgeous stationery and an array of writing tools for you to try out.
