They all got bicycle parking corrals this month!

These Mission hot spots are favorites for bike riders (like most Mission spots), but bike parking has been really skimpy, with cyclists struggling to snag a place on the one or two racks or a nearby parking meter. Not any more! Now they each have corrals that hold up to a dozen bikes.

As bicycling becomes more popular, bike corrals are being added across the city to meet the growth in ridership. The design is simple: Take a single parking spot, add a few circular bike racks and soft hit posts and voila—parking for twelve customers instead of just one.

But bike corrals aren’t just good for bicyclists; they also free up space on cramped sidewalks. Before Bi-Rite and Pizzeria Delfina got bike corrals, there was little space to walk or park your bike. Now it’s helped open up the cramped and crowded corridor.

Know of a business that needs a bike corral, or are you a business owner that wants one? You can request a bike corral for free and have it installed by the City. Visit sfbike.org/corrals for more information on how to get a corral in front of your favorite spot.
