It’s no secret that people don’t need a reason to don a costume in San Francisco. It’s only natural then that locals go all out this time of year when Halloween rolls around. USA Today even named San Francisco as one of the best cities to celebrate Halloween. However, beyond the parties, parades, and costume contests, there are unique things to do beyond the city of San Francisco in Wine Country. Today we spotlight a few of the different Halloween activities happening in Napa and Sonoma this month.

Twilight Ghost Tours at Ladera Vineyards. While you probably don’t think of wine and ghost tours together, it seems like just the thing to spice up a classic Halloween activity. Ladera’s ghost tours begin at dusk, taking guests on a lantern-led tour of the “ghost winery,” while sampling a variety of different wines, including limited production wines paired with cheese and chocolate. An appointment is required for the 90-minute tour, which costs $75 per person for groups up to four.  

Eat, Drink, and Be Scary at Trefethen Family Vineyards. Any place that has a history as old as the winery at Trefethen is bound to have a few spooks. This history was recognized in 1988 when the winery was placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Visitors can experience the spooks of the winery on Saturday, October 27 from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m., when it’s decked out for a Halloween party with spirited old wines and tasty treats. Registration is $20 for club members and $30 for all other guests, but don’t forget your costume and dancing shoes.

Harvest and Halloween Carnival at Francis Ford Coppola Winery. For those with kids who want to release your little ones for a couple hours while you enjoy some wine, then this is the Halloween event for you. On Saturday, October 27 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Francis Ford Coppola Winery will be hosting their annual harvest and Halloween celebration. Activities for children will include a juggler, magician, pumpkin decorating, and face painting, while the winery will be open and the pool café will be serving eats and drinks for the big kids. Tickets are $10 per child.
