Yes You Can: An Antidote to Holiday Gluttony

I'm back from my Christmas holiday. During this two day period, I consumed: stollen (Swedish-style buttery bread toasted and topped with more butter), Dungeness crab dipped in butter, leg of lamb dripping in fat, baked root vegetables (more butter), permsimmon pudding with hard sauce (boozy butter), homemade donuts dipped in chocolate (enough said), a cheddar cheese spread on crackers (a pickle thrown on top for health), yorkshire pudding cooked in beef fat, a slice of standing rib roast large enough for a T-Rex, potatoes au gratin (cheese and butter and cream and cream and cream), cheesecake and chocolate buche de noel.

Never in my food writing career have I done a cleanse—in fact, I believe I've scoffed at it—but right about now I'm thinking maybe I could stand to take a little break on the ol' body and join the legions of cleansers in SF.

Shrewdly, just in the nick of holiday gluttony, SF local and nutritionist Teresa Piro has launched Can Can Cleanse, a three-day cleanse program that she delivers to you. Piro dropped off some samples of her all organic fruit juices, warming teas, nut milks and seasonal soups for us to try, including Lemon Ginger Juice, Green Juice, Dandelion Tea,  Winter Orange Soup, Spiced Apple Juice,  Mixed Nut Milk and Echinacea Lemongrass Tea.

Like you don't want to buy makeup from someone that looks like RuPaul, you don't want to buy a cleanse from someone of that ilk either. You want your cleanse-maker to look, well … pure. So when she wasn't looking, I checked Piro out. Despite the fact that she told me she'd been on her feet all night juicing like 10,000 pounds of produce, she looked great. Her skin? Glowing. Her eyes? Sparkling. Her mood? Bubbling. It might be genetic, but either way, Piro is a walking advertorial for drinking juice. Look.

And for someone that cares about how things taste, if there was such thing as "my kind of cleanse," this would be it. Because everything actually tasted good. Although she dropped off a one-day sample, I'm going to try the three day when I get back from my trip to Mexico next week. Stay tuned to see if I faint.

Three day cleanse is $175; $15 extra for delivery
