Chef Hogan of Bluestem Brasserie continues his culinary tour across the country with a pit stop in Louisiana just in time for Mardi Gras. Showcasing the state’s rich culture and unique local ingredients, the menu includes shrimp and oyster po’boy (with a side of Cajun spiced fries!), Creole jambalaya, and Mardi Gras king cake. The honorary Sip of the State, a peek into Louisiana's liquid culture, is the Sazerac: a mixture of rye whiskey, sugar, Peychaud’s bitters, and Absinthe rinse. Celebrate the launch of a new book project “Legacy Bars and Restaurants” by SF author J.K. Dineen in collaboration with Heritage & Heyday. The book highlights all the legendary establishments around town who have been entertaining patrons for over 200 years. Cyrus Noble Bourbon Whiskey - first popularized during the Gold Rush and Barbary Coast days – will curate a free bourbon tasting to celebrate the launch at Elixir (a Mission district saloon since 1858). SF’s Historic Bars and Restaurants Celebration: 2/27, 6:00 p.m. at Elixir.

Saturday, March 1

Comedian Martin Daraz wants to be your spirit guide as you learn about the varied and delicious tastes to be found in single malt scotch whisky. You'll taste at least six different whiskies (including the Highland Park range), as you nibble on chocolate and experience one of San Francisco's favorite liquors. You'll also get a first look at the newly painted and revamped Boothby Center. A Scotch Whiskey Comparison: 3/1, 7:00 - 9:00 p.m., $45, at The Boothby Center. 

Tuesday, March 4

If you're looking for the full Fat Tuesday experience, look no farther than the party at Town Hall. With dancing, live music by D'Amphibians, a buffet style menu including fried chicken, jambalaya, gumbo, étoufée, BBQ shrimp and a festive oyster selection, you'll wish Mardi Gras could last all year. It'd be better if you came in costume, but if your Burning Man box is running low on supplies, they'll have face painting, feather boas, beads and masks to get you in the spirit of things. Wednesday, March 5

You'll be the star of every dinner party after this three-week course on how to make one of San Francisco's favorite and most colorful treats. Guided by the lessons from Pierre Hermé’s gorgeous book, award-winning Chef Nicole Plue will dive deep into how to create perfect shells, fillings, colorings, and flavor combinations so that your macarons are bakery worthy. Thursday, March 6 

Grab your girlfriends for a relaxed evening of cooking and drinking at the William Sonoma Cooking School. You’ll learn how to make some delicious appetizers like blini with smoked salmon and crème fraîche, curried deviled eggs with bacon, tuna tartare on flatbread, artichoke fritters with lemon-garlic aioli and beef tenderloin canapés – and then you'll get to eat them all, because that's that girls' night is all about. Girls' Night Out:3/6, 6:30 - 9:30 p.m., $110 at William Sonoma Cooking School.
