Ringing in their 24th anniversary, the National Kidney Foundation will host their annual San Francisco Author's Luncheon. Guests will six back, relax and be captivated by the compelling stories and humor of six world-renowned best-selling authors including Emma Donogue, Chef Hubert Keller and Tom Lichtenheld. After their readings, attendees will have the opportunity to meet each author and eat in their presence. Interested in a blind date… with a restaurant? Mystery Meet, the social dining experience that unites food lovers on a journey to discover new restaurants, is back for its second dinner in SF. Here's the deal. You are invited to attend a dinner with other friendly strangers who share your immense love for all things food. But, there's one catch: you won't find out about the location of the restaurant until 24 hours before, adding to the mystery of the event! The dinner doesn't focus on networking or dating, so don't worry, you can put on your stretchiest pair of pants, throw your hair in the messiest bun and get ready to stuff your face! The 2nd Annual Martini Competition back in Herb Caen's old stomping grounds: San Francisco. Four of North Beach's best and most up-in-coming bartenders will compete to make an original martini with 3 Olives Vodka. The best part, you're the judge! Each attendee will be given a bottle cap upon entering, and the cocktail that receives the most caps by the end of the night reigns supreme. Sounds like a rough job, we know! Head over to Berkeley this week for a five-course dinner at the awe-inspiring Claremont Hotel. The dinner will showcase the celebrated Napa Valley Winery Domaine Carneros and feature their CEO/Founding winemaker, Eileen Crane. Each of chef Scott Quinn's courses will be paired with award-winning sparkling wine to make your mouth tingle. Here's a preview of the menu: Cauliflower salad with curried sultana raisins, macron almonds, and a Pinot Clair vinaigrette matched with a Pinot Clair. $109 per person.
