Sunday Supper at Penrose

Launched by local restauranteur Charlie Hallowell, Sunday Suppers is a once-a-month series of gatherings that raise money for different East Bay organizations doing good across the bridge. Diners enjoy a $100 prix fixe, multicourse, family-style dinner, with house wine included (menu still TBD). Two thirds of the dinner ticket proceeds will be donated to the organization, with a $10,000 goal for the cause. This month, they're supporting Oakland Leaf – whose mission is to cultivate community transformation through creative education for youth and families – with an decadent dinner at Penrose, the newest of Hallowell's restaurants.

Vinaigrette Demonstration at SHED 

This is your excuse to check out the 2014 James Beard Award Winner for Best Restaurant Design, SHED in Healdsburg. Michele Anna Jordan, cookbook author and Press Democrat columnist, will be on hand to offer vinaigrette demonstrations and book signing from her newest cookbooks. And if you stick around to eat at the restaurant, you won't be sorry.

Winemakers Studio at Wente Vineyards

Scheduled to open next Friday, it's worth the trek to Livermore to check out Wente Vineyard's new state-of-the-art wine education studio. Right in the heart of East Bay wine country, the studio will offer an intimate, behind-the-scenes look at grape growing, wine and food pairing, wine blending (guest can blend their own wines and take the bottle home), and the chance to taste wines made exclusively for The Winemakers Studio by Wente Vineyards. WG BBQ Company at Sonoma Tastemakers

Sonoma Tastemakers celebrates the harmonious (and delicious) marriage of food and wine throughout Sonoma County. Each month they feature one local producer to highlight at St. Francis Winery & Vineyards’ Tasting Room – this week it's WG BBQ Company, champion of small-batch, award-winning, all-natural gourmet sauces. This year, WG BBQ has already earned a Bronze Medal National Award from the BBQ Association's Awards of Excellence in Texas. And in 2013, they earned First Place for both their Medium and High Heat sauces in two categories at the All Star Sauces - "Gettin' Sauced Barbeque Competition," also in Texas. Basically, this means they know what they're doing. The tasting includes small bites, paired with award-winning wines.

First Annual Young Winemakers Dinner

Emerging vintners Evan Frazier, John Lockwood, and Dan Petroski will each pour two of their celebrated wines alongside a tasting menu curated by Chef Kostow from the Restaurant at Meadowood, for a special night celebrating the future of Napa winemaking. In the spirit of giving back to the Wine Country that prodiced these young stars, a portion of the proceeds will be donated to Friends of The Napa River.
