Tuesday: The Zombies at Fillmore

Criminally under-celebrated psych rock legends The Zombies are rightfully worshipped in San Francisco. This institution of a band is responsible for some of the best tracks of the 1960s. Revisionist historians such as the editors over at Pitchfork even place tracks like “This Will Be Our Year” and “Care of Cell 44” among that decade's most essential works.

Thursday: Hot Chip at Fox Theater

In one of those too-many-good-things-happening-at-once moments, this past summer Hot Chip exploded the minds of North America with a cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark,” which also included a sample of LCD Soundsystem's “All My Friends.” The band recently released an official track and video and there aren’t enough fire emojis in the world to adequately describe it.

Friday: Passion Pit at Masonic

Passion Pit lead singer Michael Angelakos’s countertenor voice defined a generation of indie electronica, infusing enough emo to resonate beyond the fringes. The band’s latest album, 2015’s Kindred, features more of the busy, hazy electro base for Angelakos’s diary readings, exemplified best by first single “Lifted Up (1985).” Expect new material at this Halloween-themed Live 105 event, which starts early at 5pm with a bundle of promising openers: RAC and Colemen Hell.

Saturday/Sunday: Grimes at Fillmore

Canadian Claire Boucher is operating on another level. Most describe her music by either alluding to the future of some other galaxy, as if this earth was not capable of inspiring such brilliance. Space pop could be an adequate descriptor—someone should bring Grimes to the attention of Elon Musk and have her soundtrack on the maiden SpaceX voyage. Here’s why:
