One of the most historic buildings in all of Oakland is now home to one of the most happening eateries in town. Drop by the just-opened Tribune Tavern, now slinging delicious, artisan plates and cocktails in the Tribune Tower (the former home to the Oakland Tribune!), and you'll see how they put fresh meaning into the phrase "what's old is new again."

Just like in the days of yore, the Tribune Tavern is a gathering spot for the great minds of the Bay Area–but they're switching it up by carrying on that tradition in the realm of expertly made food and drinks. Their hearty dishes give a respectful nod to classic pub fare, such as Shepherd's Pie, Bangers & Mash, and Grilled Ox Tail, but do so with a modern finesse, thanks to Chef Huw Thornton. As often as possible, ingredients are made in house, from their charcuterie, to their chicken pates, to the pork belly rillettes, and beyond.

And of course, their vibrant cocktail menu matches the Tribune Tavern's handmade vibe. Thanks to the eatery's dedicated kitchen space just for drink-making, and the expert guidance of Bar Manager Paul Christenson, all drinks sport housemade tinctures, infusions, sodas, bitters and liqueurs, using fresh ingredients. And let's not forget the beer list, which features a couple of Oakland's beloved Linden Street Brewery beers on tap (including their exlcusive cask brews!).
