For its big 75th birthday, we took to wandering around the SF Botanical Gardens, one of the best urban oases in the city: 55 acres of gardens support over 8,000 different kinds of plants from all over the world (Asia, Australia, New Zealand, Central and South America, Africa, and the Mediterranean), making it one of the most diverse botanical gardens that could survive in few other parts of the world. 

Some of our favorite displays were the Moon Viewing Garden, the New Zealand and South Africa displays, the Ancient Plants Gardens, and the Garden of Fragrance—prepare for sensory overload in that one. For just $7, you can wander the thousands of plants as long as you like.
