Shuka and Kiazad Kalantari tied the knot in front of 400 friends and family members in the elegant Regency Ballroom in San Francisco. Wood-carved ceilings and sparkling chandeliers created a stunning atmosphere, but the main event was the natural flora and fauna that gave this wedding warmth and personality.

The couple wanted to incorporate original ideas and cultural details into the celebration, as the bride's immediate family members are first-generation emigrants from Iran. Shuka had a clear vision of the ceremony, which included her walking down an awe-inspiring aisle made of real grass. Per the bride’s request, the space was decked out in 3,000 square feet of real grass, fifteen live birch trees, and hundreds of plants that included a gorgeous arrangement of hydrangeas and ferns. The couple exchanged vows under a natural birch wood arbor, giving the outdoorsy atmosphere a unique handmade touch.

Natural elements branched harmoniously into the reception decor as well. Vibrant succulents embellished the birchwood-inspired tiered cake, and handcrafted birds nests perched atop each table. The couple sprinkled egg-shaped candies from Iran into these centerpieces to pay homage to their rich culture.

While the wedding’s foliage was breathtakingly beautiful, the real showstopper was when Shuka’s older sister surprised everyone and sang a traditional Iranian folk song to the couple. With a sweet flute accompaniment (by herself, no less) this musical gesture added a heartwarming element to this personalized celebration.
