Think of this weeks' Cal Academy Nightlife as a mashup of mixes. The Cocktail Lab will demo their latest concoctions while the SF Mixtape Society swaps playlists, and well, what happens in the Remix Lounge stays in the Remix Lounge. A Burning Hot Summer
Inspired in part by Jean-Luc Godard's Contempt, this exclusive engagement of Phillipe Garrel's A Burning Hot Summer delves into the tumultuous relationship between and Italian painter and his actress wife through the eyes of another couple. No doubt it will steam up our dense, foggy nights.

"Lightning Appears for a Clear Sky"
Part of a new generation of European photographers, this show of work by Swedes Thobias Fäldt and Klara Källström encompasses fine art, photojournalism and commercial art, all in one. The two use flash photography to create abstract, non-linear narratives of otherwise mundane subjects and environments.

Sonny and the Sunsets, Charlie Musselwhite, and SF Symphony
Local indie janglers Sonny and the Sunsets jam at the Indy on Sat. 7/21. For a different kind of beat, electric blues harmonica genius Charlie Musselwhite takes on Yoshi's Oakland this Saturday as well. And on Sunday, the Symphony plays their annual, free show at Dolores Park. Pack a picnic and get there early.

Youth Speaks Brave New Voices
Youth Speaks takes the Bay Area by storm this week for the 15th annual Brave New Voices youth poetry slam festival with workshops, speeches, and semi-finals, culminating in the big grand slam event at the Fox Theatre on Sat. 7/21. As the largest ongoing spoken word event in the world, you'll see the finalists among more than 500 young poets and their mentors from more than 50 cities around the globe. Support our local talent and cheer on 15-year-old grand slam champion Nyabingha McDowell, who will lead the Bay Area's six-member team.
