Keep up the Memorial weekend good vibes with these hot happenings around town.
Consider yourself a girl geek in the best way possible? Then this is the networking event for you. Alameda-based company, Perforce will be hosting a non-profit Girl Geek Dinner this week. With over 200 women in technology in attendance (including a keynote address from Ari Horie, founder of Women's Startup Lab), the dinner will feature interesting group exercises evaluating the evolving culture of this growing female developer community – as well as discussions around their contributions to the local community and industry. Comfort-food classics provided by celebrated chef Tanya Holland of Brown Sugar Kitchen and B-Side BBQ.

From experienced dancers to newbies, everyone is invited to get their groove on Friday nights at Jack London Square. Each week during the summer months, Jack London Square will host free dance lessons including the Cha Cha, Rumba, Salsa, Swing, and more. So kick up your heels and enjoy the warm weather with some stylized dancing by the waterfront.

Award-winning Latina author and illustrator Yuyi Morales will be the San Francisco Library's special guest speaker at the 18th Annual Effie Lee Morris Lecture this year. Her talk, “Creating Children’s Books: An Immigrant’s Story” considers her life and work as a Spanish-speaking immigrant and new mother who migrated to the U.S. from Mexico in 1994. Since then Morales earned her place as the first children’s book illustrator of Mexican descent to reach the New York Times Best Sellers List.

30th Annual Fillmore Jazz Festival
Celebrating three decades of bringing jazz to the streets of SF, the Annual Fillmore Jazz Festival returns this year to celebrate outstanding women from across the jazz spectrum and their contribution to music. This is the largest free jazz festival on the West Coast – so put on your dancing shoes and groove to the sounds of live music on multiple stages, browse the fine arts and crafts, and enjoy gourmet food.

Brandon Loper, an Alabama native, is on a mission to explore the origins and obsessions of a shared daily ritual. “A Film About Coffee“ will take you on a journey into the cultures and commerce behind every beautiful pour. “No matter the quality of your cup, people who love coffee, love it. Coffee is about people, and people are what I’m interested in ultimately,” says Loper.
