Paul Madonna Posters
Look for six original works by the Chronicle's "All Over Coffee" artist Paul Madonna dotting Market Street. For this SF Arts Commission series, Madonna layers his imagery with quotes and short stories. The Chinatown posers has words by Amy Tan, and the War Memorial Opera House tells the story of soprano Patricia Racette. Smaller versions of these posters are on sale here.

SF Symphony 4th of July Concert
This year's concert pays tribute to the upcoming Olympics with gold medal music including "Pomp and Circumstance," tunes from Rocky, "We Are the Champions," and more. For more to do on July 4th, check out our happenings blog here.

Marin Shakespeare Summer Series
The power and politics of King John kick off the Marin Shakespeare Company's summer series of three of the Bard's famous plays, including the original rom-com A Midsummer Night's Dream. The festival closes with humor and deceit in The Liar.

Artist Talk + Book Signing
Tomas von Houtryve and Bruce Haley
Just in time for the celebration of our country's independence and democracy, SF's photo bookstore and gallery Carte Blanche hosts photographers Tomas von Houtryve and Bruce Haley in talks about their new books Behind the Curtains of 21st Century Communism and Sunder. These books will drive home the amazing freedoms we live by in this country. P.S. Our favorite activist Clint Eastwood wrote the forward in Haley's Sunder.

Red Baraat
From Brooklyn warehouse parties to Lincoln Center concerts, Red Baraat has made a name for itself as one of the best live bands performing today. Melding North Indian rhythm Bhangra with funk, latin, and jazz, Red Baraat is that unclassifiable fusion of styles that will get even the shyest wallflowers moving their hips and swaying to the beat.

Occupy Bay Area
YBCA has put together an exhibit of the most effective art and documentation in response to the controversial Occupy Movement that has made its mark in both Oakland and San Francisco. The show also includes posters and photos from other political struggles including the Black Panther Party, the ARC/AIDS Vigil at City Hall, the Free Speech Movement at UC Berkeley, and more in order to create a historical context for this project. Artists featured include New Yorker cover artist Erick Drooker and local video artist and CCA professor Kota Ezawa.

Fillmore Jazz Fest
It's that time of year again when Fillmore Street shuts down for one of the biggest block parties of the year. Spread across three different stages, you'll have the chance to see Kim Nally's tribute to the late Etta James and take part in a dance lesson by Swing U.
