5. Books for Cooks
Signed cookbooks make very good holiday gifts.  Join VFC (very famous chef) Thomas Keller at Sur la Table in the Ferry Building tonight at 5 p.m. for a signing of his new book all about the magic of sous vide, Under Pressure. The following day, Eric “the ripper” Ripert, of New York’s famed Le Bernadin restarant, will be in town for a one-day-only promotion of his new cookbook, On the Line, at Omnivore Books. Then, on Saturday, Clark Wolf and Andante dairy cheesemaker Soyoung Scanlan will be at Omnivore for a signing of Wolf’s new book, American Cheeses. Last but not least—Alice Waters will be at The Gardner in the Ferry Building, signing copies of her book, Edible Schoolyard, A Universal Idea.

6. Liquid Gold
Tonight, Coco500 will celebrate the arrival of olio nuovo, that spicy, peppery freshly pressed olive oil that debuts every year around this time. They’ll be using the golden liquid to anoint grilled Monterey squid, farro soup, buckwheat cavatelli and grilled pork cheeks—they’ll even be slipping some into the cake. 7. Hot Tamales
Yes, you could go to the same old boring company holiday party. Or, you could attend the Fiesta del Tamal!
