You know those painfully perfect people who always have gorgeous clothes, fabulous apartments and can string together a couple hardware store items into abadass statement necklace? Well Brit Morin of Brit + Co. is one of those ladies.
Her perfectness would be off-putting, except…she's pretty darn cool, smart, and really, really nice. She's the internet genius behind her own lifestyle website (formerly at Apple, then Google), and has curated a lifestyle blog that has a fiercely dedicated readership full of DIY projects, interviews, recipes, tech, plus a little shopping. Brit's goal is to provide tech savvy folks with the tools to make life a little easier and more beautiful online, and now in person too.
October 4th and 5th Brit will host a two day event for creative types, bringing in home, food, fashion, and health industry leaders to talk about how technology is changing creative industries. Called Re:Make, we are really digging the way Brit is taking two traditional disparate communities (creative "makers" and techies), and combining forces in a way that mirrors her website and brand. Plus with speakers like Michael Mina, Randi Zuckerberg and the CFO of Modcloth, you know it'll make for interesting discussions.
What neighborhood do you currently call home? Would you ever move or are you happy in your 'hood?
I've lived most of my Bay Area life in North Beach and Russian Hill in San Francisco, but not long ago, my husband and I moved to Marin. Even though it’s much quieter than the city, we absolutely love living so close to nature. There's so much to explore there (not to mention so much natural beauty).
Plus, we’ve been getting some really great new restaurants. Beerworks is one of my favorites in Mill Valley and I can’t be more excited that Blue Barn recently opened in Corte Madera. I’m obsessed with their tostada salads!
What's your hands-down, absolute favorite thing to eat in SF?
This is the hardest question ever! How does one choose? If I can only choose one spot, it’s hands down, sushi at Umami in Cow Hollow. Everything is good there -- the rolls, the tea, the sashimi...they even have epic sliders! I also highly recommend getting the cookie dough roll after dinner. It's 100% worth it just for novelty sake alone.
Roka Akor in Jackson Square is certainly giving them a run for the money, but Umami still wins out for me.
What's your perfect night on the town?
This sounds very un-original of me, but in my humble opinion a night out with my husband and close friends can’t be beat. I prefer great wine and deep conversation instead.
Having lived in Russian Hill for almost three years, one of my go-to restaurants was always Frascati. If you don’t stay for their epic apple crumble dessert, you can walk up the street to Swensen’s Ice Cream, or down to Union Street to create your own ice cream at Loving Cup. From there, we’d either head home and curl up in front of a movie, or head to Kabuki. We’re both movie fanatics. A couple of my recent favorites include Mud and Now You See Me.
When you need a low-key afternoon, where do you go for down time?
I’m a big fan of low-key afternoons. It’s my only opportunity to get a bit of real down time, which when you’re running a startup, is very hard to come by. In San Francisco, you can usually find me at Fort Mason Park or Crissy Field. Not only are those some of the most gorgeous spots in the city, but they are also great spot for dogs. My pup, Pixel, quite literally has a field day whenever we go there.
Now that we’re in Marin, I usually spend my afternoons hiking, biking, or catching some rays at Stinson Beach. The Coastal Trail is one of my favorites. (Pro tip: concoct your day so that you end up at the Pelican Inn for a beer afterwards!)
What's your favorite place to go on a day trip from the city?
I take a lot of day trips and weekend trips. I’m lucky that my backyard in Marin is a day trip in itself with hiking, biking, Stinson Beach, and all kinds of great shops. I’m a huge fan of Marin Country Mart -- it’s so well curated with shops and restaurants alike. Napa is a staple, especially when friends or family are in town. (Don’t miss Peju winery and their yodeling wine connoisseur.)
If I’m headed south, I usually try to go to Capitola or Santa Cruz for a laid back beach day, and will never pass up a dinner at Casanova in Carmel. And during ski season, you’ll definitely find me in the mountains almost every weekend. We’re a pretty hard core ski family!

Burger. Specifically, a burger at Nopa or Spruce.
Presidio or Golden Gate Park?
Presidio… especially if I’m running it.
BiRite or Mitchell's?
BiRite - Ricanela all the way. (PS: I’m obsessed with their cookbook!)
Bike or MUNI?
Mountain bike… in Marin.
Fort Mason or Dolores Park?
Fort Mason (I’ll see you there on 10/5 for Re:Make!)
The Independent or the Fillmore?
Fillmore. Better bands.
Baker Beach or Ocean Beach?
Baker. But Stinson has now topped it for me.
