First City Festival is named after Monterey’s claim as the official “first capital” of California.  Monterey was home to the state’s first theatre, public library, publicly funded school, printing press, and newspaper. Now, you can pay homage to this groundbreaking California city at the First City Festival, going down August 24 and 25. It boasts an amazing lineup of the buzziest bands around, like Passion Pit, MGMT, Beach House, Modest Mouse, Neko Case, Purity Ring, Dr. Dog, Father John Misty, and many, many more. Not only will you get to experience top-notch music in one of the most beautiful places in the entire state, there are even carnival rides and games for the kid in all of us!
