Wedding Inspiration: A couple of immigrants find home in each other, and in SF

Anna Danilova and Fan Zhang met at the house party of a friend-of-friend and it was immediately electric between them. "I saw him from across the room and couldn't look away," Danilova recalls.

Though it was Zhang who approached her on the dance floor that night, three and a half years later, it would be the future bride who made the big move. "We went to Hawaii for vacation, and I popped the question with ring in hand after dinner at the Ritz-Carlton."

Deciding on a small ceremony wasn't tough for Danilova and Zhang—both are immigrants without much family in the States—so they planned an intimate gathering with just their parents at two intimate spots: San Francisco City Hall ("one of the most beautiful in the country"), and the condo they'd moved into just six months earlier, taking the opportunity to snap some photos of their new love nest.

Dressed in a lavender gown, Valentino heels, and wild horsehair earrings of her own design, Danilova carried a bouquet of vivid primary-hued blooms as she approached her cerulean-maned husband-to-be. After the ceremony, it was back home to sip bubbly, nibble macarons, and to share a twilight rooftop dance with the 'rents.

"Eventually, we plan to go to both China and Russia and celebrate again with our family and friends there," the bride says.
