Matthew Lombard and Jeff Peng met the old fashioned way—through a mutual friend, while on vacation.

They dated for a year before moving in; five years later, they had their twins. In an otherwise natural progression of things, they forgot one step: They never got engaged. So when the guys decided to just get hitched, their vision for their wedding would be as easygoing and lovely as their life so far.

Since he first moved to San Francisco, Lombard always knew he wanted to get married at City Hall; the Beaux-Arts icon would be the perfect backdrop for an elegant look. Of course, it didn't hurt that the couple is also close friends with SF Mayor London Breed, who officiated their intimate ceremony inside her office, where they shared Champagne and macarons.

As an interracial gay couple, Lombard and Peng wanted to share nuptials that felt authentic to themselves, and so they selected a wedding song, Wild's "American Love," that fit the theme. It "spoke to us on many levels," says Lombard, nothing that the song's lyrics evoked many of the pair's most memorable trips to destinations across the U.S., capturing a themes of diversity. "When we listened to it, it gave us a kind of spin on a new American wedding—everything just came together perfectly."

The grooms took hold of the modern Americana theme, wearing matching navy blue suits from Zara with deep red accents. The twins had their own fabulous outfits to match.

After the ceremony, they moseyed over to the Golden Gate Bridge to pose for quintessential San Francisco wedding photos. But they stood too close to the edge and a large wave crashed against the wall, soaking the backs of their suits. "We took that as a toast to our marriage, from the bay," they laughed.

Dried out in time for dinner, the newlyweds shared a cozy meal at Gary Danko with their families and Mayor Breed; a single centerpiece and handful of candles adorned the table, and the Dom Perignon flowed.

"Our daughter had so much fun that by the end of the day, she asked us, "Can we go get married again sometime?"
