The Museum of Craft and Design, located in the up-and-coming Dogpatch, encourages visitors to discover the roles of craft and design in shaping our dynamic world, through both handmade and digitally developed works.

On August 20th, MCD will open three new exhibitions: Beyond the Pour II: The Creative Process, sets out to explore the creative processes of more than 50 artists with wine on their minds; Anja Ulfeldt: Of Sound | Mind and Objects brings an interactive sound sculpture to the SF space; and Marianne Lettieri: Reflections re-examine objects of domestic labor.

Artist Elaine Coombs in her studio, working on a collaboration with artist Heather Patterson.

Guest curated by Bob Nugent, Beyond the Pour II showcases original works of art with a focus on the creative methods artists engage to bring their inspirations to fruition. Visitors will see work by emerging and established artists including Lynn Hershman Leeson, Sol LeWitt, Tom Foolery, Catherine Wagner, and many more. Look for more than 50 works of arts including photography, works on paper, painting, sculpture, and video.

Marianne Lettieri, Sisters of Biscuits and Pies, 2014

Marianne Lettieri's solo exhibition contextualizes and celebrates the past lives of overlooked homemaking relics. Using collections and memory as a way to work through current social and political contexts, her sculptures and installations include vintage and Victorian tools of domestic labor, reinforcing the perpetual flux and interconnectedness of life and communities through time.

Anja Ulfeldt, Domestic Infrastructure #3

Featuring Domestic Infrastructure #3, a life-size working model of a drainage system brought to life by hidden acoustics and the act of listening, Of Sound | Mind and Objects makes visible a system often concealed behind walls and amplifies sounds typically obscured by everyday life. Ulfeldt's interactive, sound-based installation invites museum visitors to engage with the sculpture by moving the long wooden pump handle back and forth until the water level reaches the top of a wall. Microphones embedded in and on the pipes amplify changes in the soundscape as the water rises and eventually gushes and cascades through the drains.
