After decades of choosing between a tedious six-hour drive and the mayhem that is LAX, San Francisco residents that yearn for some Los Angeles sun now have a more efficient third option. 

The California High-Speed Rail Authority began construction on the nation’s first high-speed rail system today, making it possible to have lunch at LA's Animal and make it back to the Golden Gate Bridge for sunset.  

But don't pack your bags just yet, unfortunately, it's going to be another 14 years before passengers can actually enjoy the 200 mile per hour bullet train. By 2029, the system will connect SF and LA in under three hours and will eventually extend to Sacramento and San Diego, totaling 800 miles with up to 24 stations. We'll be first in line.
