No Teasing
Modern Tea owner Alice Cravens will be leading an in-depth brewing session and hands-on cooking class at Cavallo Point on Thursday, April 16, from 1:30 to 4:30 p.m. She’ll demystify the vast world of tea, then share her recipes for sweet and savory treats to pair with you favorite brew. 18 Reasons will be hosting a home brewers beer night on April 16 from 7 to 9 p.m. Sample the best homebrews in San Francisco (including a Belgian dark ale aged with prunes), along with cheese provided by Bi-Rite market, all for $10. You don’t need to be a homebrewer or beer expert to attend—all are welcome!

Soups at Spruce
Lunch and a behind-the-scenes look at Spruce? On April 18, from 11 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., chef Mark Sullivan will host a dozen people in the Spruce kitchen for the first-ever cooking class, this one focusing on spring soups. Following the class, guests will be seated in the dining room, where they’ll enjoy a three-course lunch paired with wines. The cost is $99 (including lunch) and reservations are required. Swing Batter Batter
Even though baseball is hardly Australia’s national pastime (cricket is more like it), the folks at South have adopted a “if you can’t beat ’em, join’em attitude.” On weekdays from now until October (and Saturday game days) they’re hosting a baseball happy hour—$5 bites and $6 bevvies from 3:30 to 6 p.m.

Sweet and Sauer
Next Wednesday, April 22, La Cocina will be filled with the aroma of cabbage and vinegar. Yes, it’s time for the “Sauerkraut Made Simple” class with Kathryn Lukas of Farmhouse Culture leading the fermentation charge. Tickets are $30, snacks will be served and you’re welcome to bring your own picnic dinner (and beer) to kraut college. The class runs from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.; click here to purchase a ticket.

In Good Taste
On April 23 more than 20 of the city’s finest restaurants will band together for the annual Share Our Strength Taste of the Nation—chefs from A16 to Zaré at Fly Trap will prepare dishes to sample, complimented by cocktails and fine wines. A $75 ticket will get your access to the mixing and mingling, or splurge on a $250 ticket for the gala dinner, a four-course feast prepared by a veritable who’s-who of American chefs, from Michael Symon to Chris Cosentino. Proceeds will all go to support Share Our Strength, an organization that aims to end childhood hunger.

With Lime and Salt, Please
Just in time for Cinco de Mayo, Joanne Weir releases her latest book, Tequila: A Guide to Types, Flights, Cocktails and Bites. The kick-off party on April 19 will be held at (where else) Tres Agaves, where you can sample a Partido margarita, get yourself mixed up in a vertical tequila tasting and snack on housemade chips and salsa (and, of course, pick up a signed book). The event runs from 5 to 7 p.m. and is free but you must RSVP.
