Looking for some fun two-wheeled adventures this weekend? Head on down to the Cow Palace for one of the biggest Bay Area bike events of the year: The 2012 SF Bike Expo.
Last year, more than 4,000 bike-loving folks filled the walls of the Bike Expo, and this year it’s expected to be even bigger. The event is mostly about gear, so there’ll be plenty of bike shop owners scouring booths for the next cool thing. But there’s plenty of fun stuff for the lay-bike enthusiast—and chances are you’ll walk away with some pretty sweet schwag.
Here are my suggestions for what to focus on—so you don’t get lured into buying a $6000 bike you don’t need:
Pedal Savvy Fashion Show: Check out the hottest urban bike gear in this two-wheeled fashion show. Pedal Savvy always has great, Indy, Etsy-style bike clothes and jewelry, so it’s a nice break from the big industry products at much of the other booths. Saturday and Sunday at 1:00 pm
Bike Polo Tournement: Hardcourt. Back to back matches. Sure to be some blood. Saturday and Sunday at 10:00 am.
Big Air Competition: Every year, the SF Bike Expo folks build sweet courses for big air and stunt biking. This year, there’s a ladies event, which I’m stoked to watch. And there’s a fixed-gear competition as well. Ongoing throughout Saturday and Sunday.
Group Ride and Afterparty: Join Huckleberry Bicycles, PedalSavvy and Revolights for a City Limit group bike ride from the event. And then head on over to the afterparty at F8, 1192 Folsom Street. Saturday, ride leaves at 5:30 from Gate 11 and party starts at 9.
