Fashion Week Photography, New Leica Store, and a ModaVive Warehouse Sale

Bringing you the latest in retail therapy around the Bay Area.

If you've visited Viracocha at 998 Valencia, you know it carries quite a unique selection of vintage housewares and clothing. But what really sets this palce apart is the "speakeasy" downstairs. This Friday, August 29 at 8pm, The Blind Willies will perform their foot-stomping Americana rock along with Callow, a "ghost-western" indie-rock band out of San Francisco. A $10 donation is requested, RSVP here.

La Boutique, L'Art et La Mode in Jackson Square has a lot more going on than just shopping. The gorgeous space at 414 Jackson Street is launching a new photography show by Ricky Opaterny with an opening reception on Thursday, September 4 from 6 to 8pm. Opaterny takes a refreshing look at fashion week in his black and white digital photography by focusing not on what fashion insiders are wearing, but on the mood and emotion surrounding the event. You'll see street style stars including Carine Roitfeld, Garance Dore, Miroslava Duma, and many more in a more personal light than ever before. RSVP here.

Speaking of photography, Leica has opened up a beautiful store downtown at 463 Bush Street. Stop by to check out the space's first exhibit: French Kiss, A Love Letter to Paris, by Peter Turnley. Come back October 24 for his lecture on his work, and stay tuned for lots more events including artist presentations, demos, and workshops on printing, editing, and lighting.

After 15 years in Hayes Valley, a rent hike has forced the African Outlet to move. The owners are reopening at 4942 3rd Street in Bayview in late September, along with an Africal cultural center with a performance space and gallery.

Up north in Healdsburg, the Mercantile Shop is shutting its doors for good after this coming weekend. Shop their final hours Thursday through Sunday 11am until 5pm.

If you're looking to add to your wardrobe and remain guilt-free, ModaVive's upcoming event is the perfect opportunity. The San Francisco startup, which combines vintage clothing shopping and philanthropy, is hosting a warehouse sale on Thursday, September 4 from 5 to 7pm at 1620 Montgomery Street. Look for new and gently worn designer, contemporary and vintage clothing at up to 90% off retail. Proceeds benefit buildOn, Girl Up, Operation Smile, KIDS, and many more. RSVP here.
