The moon has received no shortage of press in recent weeks. Now, she's even inspiring hotel deals. To celebrate the 40th anniversary of the first lunar landing, which took place yesterday, the newly opened Hotel Abrego has rolled out a monthly "Moon Over Monterey" special through the end of the year.
Only available when the moon is full--Aug. 6-7, Sept. 4-5, Oct. 4-5, Nov. 2-3 and Dec. 2-3--this steal of a deal is designed specifically for families at the affordable rate of $111 a night (simply unheard of in pricey Monterey). The two-night package is based on double occupancy and includes a deluxe guest room, MoonPies as a turndown sweet treat and a copy of the new book Mission Control, This is Apollo: The Story of the First Voyages to the Moon by Andrew Chaikin.
Opened earlier this month, Monterey's newest hotel boasts 93 room and is located a short distance from the beaches, dining, shopping and nightlife. Abrego is named for the warm winds that blow out of Africa. Decorated in warm, inviting earth tones, each room is outfitted with fluffy Egyptian cotton towels, waffle robes, a mini bar, coffee maker, flat-screen TV, plush chaise lounge, walnut desk, ergonomic chair, hair dryer and complimentary Wi-Fi. Most have fireplaces.
"Moon Over Monterey" packages are on sale from now until Aug. 6. For reservations or more information, call 800-982-1986 or e-mail reservations@innsofmonterey.com using package promo code MOON. For more advice on what to do on your weekend away, see our recent summer getaway post on Monterey.
