Living green has always been a part of the culture at W San Francisco.
On April 22nd, join the W to celebrate the mother of all mothers, Mother Earth. It would mean the world to us, and we have some really special things planned.

To start, when you check in at the welcome desk, you will receive seed packets to plant your own tree of life. For an extra goodie, bring five plastic bags to be recycled and you'll receive a reusable W tote. In the Living Room bar, you can sip a special Earth Day cocktail beneath the radiant green glow of our Lumina light sculpture before pulling up at a chair at our restaurant, Trace, for a meal of sustainable California cuisine. In the morning, brunchgoers will enjoy homemade green juice shot on the house.
W San Francisco was one of the first five properties in the country to achieve LEED Platinum certification, the highest ranking by the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) and the world's most widely used and recognized green building rating system. The property is focused on maintaining its leadership role in the green hotel movement in San Francisco, implementing a variety of green programs and practices, including using energy efficient lighting in 50 percent of the guest-facing facilities and 90 percent in the back of the house; 37 percent reduction of water consumption; and replacement of HVAC cooling towers with energy efficient models saving 300KWH per year in energy (that's equivalent to making 120,000 margaritas in the blender!).
Aligned with the W's philosophy of green hospitality, Trace is careful to purchase bountiful ingredients that are local, organic, and/or certified sustainable. Additionally, W San Francisco has 10 rooftop beehives, which produce more than 300 pounds of honey per year to be used in dishes and cocktails at Trace.
