And now, an excerpt from an as-yet-untitled play I’ve been working on.
Me: Hey, what are you up to this weekend?
You: Dunno, I mean, the week just started…
Me: Yeah, I know, but the Treasure Island Music Festival’s this weekend and I think it’s gonna be really cool. (Pause for effect) For starters, when else are you going to go to Treasure Island? Plus, have you seen the lineup? On Saturday there’s Ghostland Observatory, Gotan Project, Thievery Corporation and DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist, to name a few. Plus M.I.A. (have you heard her new tune “Paper Planes” with its catchy gunfire-cum-typewriter sound effects riff? Sign me up!). And then on Sunday it’s an indie rock buffet: Modest Mouse, Spoon, Built to Spill, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, Au Revoir Simone and tons more.
You: Okay, I get it. It sounds cool. I remember reading about it in the September issue of 7x7. In fact, weren’t you the one who wrote about it?
Me: Maybe … So?
You: It’s sorta weird how obsessed you are with it. Is your company like sponsoring it or something?
Me: Yeah. What difference does it make? It’s still cool.
You: I’m just asking. Anyways, it does sound really cool. Are there still tickets left?
Me: Unbelievably, I think there are. But you should hurry and buy ’em quickly in case they sell out. Like, go buy them now at treasureislandfestival.com.
