Pregs? 3 Ways to Save on Maternity Clothing in San Francisco

By

If you find yourself in the family way, then you’re soon going to need clothes that will cover – and we hope flatter – your new bump. Dropping loads of cash on new maternity clothing that you’ll only wear for a few months is hardly your only option. Here are three suggestions to help you meet your wardrobe needs without depleting your cash reserves (meaning you’ll have more to spend on ice cream and prenatal massages).

Maternity Xchange: Each month, this weekend sale sets up shop inside the Presidio Sports Basement location and offers both new and secondhand maternity clothing at 25 to 75 percent off retail prices. There’s a sizable denim selection, as well as office-appropriate attire, workout gear and everyday basics. You’ll find brands from Pea in the Pod to Diane Von Furstenberg and Mimi Maternity priced for far less than you’d buy new. This blogger even scored a Chaiken maternity blazer at a recent event for $20. The next exchange takes place July 17-18.

RentMaternityWear.com: Need a dress for a formal event or special occasion, but you’re balking at buying and only wearing it once? Consider renting a dress from this Bay Area company instead. Maternity dresses for baby showers, cocktail parties and weddings start at $35 per week to rent, and you can also rent a second size of the same dress for free or opt to rent a brand new dress for slightly more per week. Each dress comes with a 48-hour “try on” grace period. If you’re not happy with what you’ve ordered, you can return it within that time for a refund. Another perk? Return shipping is free.

Appel & Frank Babes & Babies: Held occasionally throughout the year in San Francisco, this shopping event places the focus on apparel, gear and services for infants and kids, but there are also deals to be had for moms-to-be. Among them at this month’s event, you’ll find maternity clothing from Mom’s the Word, as well as stylish hospital gowns from Annie & Isabel and handbags by Pockets of Dreams. As is the case with all Appel & Frank events, many of the vendors offer special discounts and deals on current merchandise, with some even selling at wholesale prices during the event. The next Babes & Babies in San Francisco takes place on July 18.
