San Francisco Hotels Get a Facelift With a Flurry of Million-Dollar Renovations

Whether you're staying in town for business or, better yet, for pleasure, here are a host of classic San Francisco hotels that have been recently refreshed for your overnight pleasure.

W Hotel

This SoMa hotspot (President Obama held a fundraiser here during his last trip to SF), the W Hotel just introduced a brand new event space and terrace, along with a modern fitness "gym" called FIT. Perched on the terrace of the hotel, the concept gym is dripping with natural light from a massive skylight ceiling. The epicenter of FIT is a central seating structure and self-serve bar area with rings of color-changing light fixtures. Workout equipment hugs the perimeter. The vibe is amped-up and sexy. Mercifully, both men and women's showers are located at the gym. Riding the elevator back to your room in sweaty gym clothes or a robe will be a thing of the past. 181 3rd Street

Galleria Park Hotel

Galleria Park Hotel recently celebrated the completion of an 18-month, multi-million dollar renovation. The hotel's 177 guest rooms and suites were updated and Frank Leclerc's Gaspar Brasserie, which opened in May, was introduced. 191 Sutter

Hotel del Sol

Fully renovated in 2013 with guest rooms by San Francisco-based designer Anthony Laurino, Hotel del Sol's kid-friendly rooms feature beach-themed art, blown-glass bedside lamps, a bright orange accent wall, and tufted white and silver headboards. 3100 Webster

Hotel Carlton

Located in San Francisco’s Lower Nob Hill neighborhood, the Hotel Carlton has recently completed renovations in all of their high-end rooms including updated decorative floors, wall tiling, and bathrooms. In addition to room renovations, the hotel also features a public photography exhibit highlighting the work of Italian photographer Luigi Fieni. More than 50 unique images, celebrating Nepal’s cultural heritage are on permanent display throughout the eight floors of the hotel. 1075 Sutter

Top of the Mark at the Mark Hopkins Hotel

"I'm gonna climb Nob Hill/just to watch it get dark/from the Top of the Mark," rings a line made famous in the city's eponymous anthem. Now the iconic bar/lounge at the Mark Hopkins is getting a (much-needed) makeover by one of the country's greatest designers, Ken Fulk. Expect sleek, chic decor, coming in early 2015. View this wonderful teaser and just try to resist. 999 California

The Ritz-Carlton San Francisco Club Level

First the fine folks at the Ritz Carlton changed up their restaurant and gave us the ultra-sleek Parallel 37. Now they're undergoing more change on their lux Club Level. Both the suites and Club Level lounge will get a major refresh in shades of silver, blue, and cream with natural wood accents. Coming soon in early 2015. 600 Stockton
