Stable Cafe turns two (weeks) tomorrow!

I don't know about the rest of you, but I've finally reached the age where I can't open my inbox without receiving a birth announcement, baby shower invitation, or photograph of a pink newborn. These are the same people whose weddings I attended about three years back, so it shouldn't come as such a surprise. Yet it does, every time.

Stable Cafe turns two weeks old tomorrow.

I'm much more comfortable celebrating a two-week old cafe than I am a two-week old baby; the former makes me feel excited and eager, while the latter makes me feel a little bit old and a little bit nervous. Tomorrow, Stable Cafe on Folsom (between 17th and 18th), will celebrate its two-week birthday. I'd like to suggest that, in celebration, all you Mission dwellers peddle your fixed-gear bikes (actually, on second thought, don't peddle. Just walk.) over to this new neighborhood hang-out. You can get excellent coffee(drip or espresso), grilled sandwiches and soups, and all-American sweets prepared by Jen Musty of Batter Bakery. The space, a converted carriage house, has all of the charm of a former barn, with wide rough plank floors and exposed beams, but the space has been thoughfully modernized so that it's flooded with light and has a cozy loft that overlooks the room below. It's not trying too hard to be the next cool spot, but it's succeeding just the same. Before the throngs descend, go check it out. That way, a year from now, you can say you knew them when.
