As a kid, I used to accessorize with candy—ring pops and Smarties necklaces were all the rage—but these days, edible haute couture would be lost on me. With my ravenous appetite, all of my clothes would end up sleeveless (or worse). So I couldn’t think of a better idea than combining food and fashion on the runway (the clothes will be safe since most models don’t eat anyway).
The 2007 Toast of the Town, which benefits the Golden Gate Restaurant Association, is this Wednesday night (the 26th) at the Old Federal Reserve Building, and it’ll feature the first edible catwalk. Watch as models show off designs whipped up by your favorite SF chefs—Sean O’Brien of Myth, Hubert Keller of Fleur de Lys and Elizabeth Falkner of Citizen Cake, for example—who worked with local fashion designers such as Joui Turandot and Jessica Summers.
That’s not all. Marisa Churchill, from Bravo TV’s Top Chef, is hosting this tasting gala; world-famous gender illusionists, the Ladies of Asia SF, will entertain; Wonder Bread 5 will perform; and a generous array of food (prepared by top area chefs) and beverages will be served. Last but not least, the folks at Bourbon & Branch will sponsor a cigar bar on the second-floor balcony.
Unfortunately, I’ll be in Cartagena next week, but go, eat, drink, be fashionable and tell me all about it!
