The Eater Wrap: Burger Bar Nears, Gourmet's Demise, and the Usual Yelp Shenanigans

By

The Eater Wrap returns after a week off to bring you all the best and brightest local restaurant news of the last seven days or so at Eater SF. Oh, and did everyone notice the newest member of the Eater family, Eater National? It's your new source for celebrity chef doings, Top Chef gossip, and much much more. Please do give it a whirl!

1) Last week saw the debuts of Quince, SPQR and Out the Door, and come next week, the fall opening season will continue in a big way with the arrival of yet another heavyweight: Hubert Keller's Burger Bar.

2) The massive, game-changing news of the week was undoubtedly the end of Gourmet magazine. Despite a 68-year history and a celebrity editor in Ruth Reichl, the Conde Nast overlords took the plunge and cut the monumental food magazine. All kinds of reactions from the media followed. Even Jon Stewart got in on the action.

3) A funny thing happened at Kozy Kar. It involved Yelp.

4) From this week's Top Chefrecap: "This week's Quickfire somehow involves the website Cookstr.com, which is a very easy name to hate. It lets you search recipes by mood? Guys, don't all log on at once. It's weird I am even writing this recap because everyone on the Internet has already replaced all their bookmarks with Cookstr.com."

5) The guy from the Food Network is going to open a restaurant with the guy from Van Halen. And that's all we'll say about that.

6) Poor Bistro 24 never had a chance, did it? After only three months, the Noe Valley restaurant decided to pull the plug. Godspeed.

7) In the Fun With Menus Department, one "special" Oakland cafe/creperie will spank you. And only for $25!
