10 Best Dishes Under $10 in the Lower Haight

Last fall, we published the 10 Best Lunches Under $10 in Union Square. It was so popular, we figured why not do every neighborhood? Rather than attack this subject as outsiders, we're approaching a hyperlocal dweller from each 'hood to give us their picks—starting with the Lower Haight.

No one knows this area better than Andrew Dudley, the editor of Haighteration— a blog about the news, events, personalities, and minutae of the neighborhood. From pizza to burgers, Dudley's picks show that he's a true man of the people.

San Franciscans are pretty, ahem, vocal about food, so sound off in the comments about what you'd add to this list.

1. The Maxi Burger Special at Memphis Minnie's
"Sure, the regular BBQ staples are great here, but on Fridays I opt for the Maxi Burger special - ground chuck, melty pimento cheese, and house cured/smoked bacon topped with crispy onions—unreal." 576 Haight St., 415-864-PORK

2. Half-Pound Burger and Fries at Nickies
"Nickies is one of the only bars in the Lower Haight that also serves food, and though they've seriously upgraded their menu recently, I still love their standard half-pound burger and fries—especially since the combo only costs $5 before 6pm." 466 Haight St., 415-255-0300

3. Chile Verde Chicken Tacos at Little Chihuahua

I'm seriously considering a condo in Lower Haight, like a block and a half from Haight and Fillmore (away from the projects). I know crime is an issue around there (and yes I know there was a double murder last week) but I don't think it's that bad. Am I being a moron? Should I be more concerned about safety?

Rosemunde burger tuesday is amazing, totally worth the wait. Half the fun is grabbing a beer next door and relaxing. The burger is cooked perfectly, and unlike John I believe that the grilled onions are a great addition. I've brought more than 20 people here (on different days) and never seen anyone have good things to say about the burger.

I can understand if you hate the wait but you can't hate the burger, especially when it is only $6 bucks. I bet John would be happier going odwn to burgermeister and shelling out over $10 bucks for some fancy "gourmet" burger with avocado that can't even compare to Rosemunde.

Rosamunde Tuesday burgers are not worth wait. Depending on when you order you can be waiting for up to an hour. So if you have time to spare and like tasteless overly grilled burgers then come here and see if you can get one. Rosamunde, stick to your sausages, they're one of the best in SF.

Ditto: Leaving out Rosamunde is a felony! And the Falafel and Shwerma at Ali Baba's. And I am happy to include Little Chihuahua on a roster of Lower Haight's exceptional eateries. One weekend morning I ordered their Chilaquiles special. It was the best rendition of this dish I have ever tasted here or in Mexico. It was swoonworthy.

Listen, I'm impressed 7x7 even knows we exist here in the Lower Haight! Now she had ten under ten, and yes all of these are Delicious and she left some out, but lets not announce that Burger Tuesday to everyone, cause then the line would be even longer!!!
I have to give this review props for having CuCos and 2Jacks on the list, although, Little Chihuahua is a bit of a stretch for this list, they're not really the Lower Haight.

While I agree mostly with this list it does seem odd to leave off Rosamunde... $5.50 burger Tuesday or any of their sausages...cheap.

Good comment re the faux duck. I'm not a veggie, nor vegan, and I have to say its amazing.

Good comment re Kingfoot. Some of their sandwiches rock...especially the kimchi on mentioned.

Lastly, no Estelle's...?

PS-And, without fail, I, and every one of my friends, have gotten sick after Mythic...for seven years now (dozens of trips). No mas.
