Look of the Week: Edwardian Ball 2011
We want you to be belle of the ball, the Edwardian Ball that is. Stroll down to the Regency Ballroom this Friday for the Edwardian World's Faire, and Saturday for the 11th Annual Edwardian Ball, one of SF's most lavish costume parties.
Edwardian fashion is all about prim, high collars, ruffly frocks with oversized sleeves, elaborate hats with cascading plumes, and a whole lot of lace. Now, let's one, two step, and remix that a bit for 2011.
For a modern Edwardian look try a high collared LBD with flattering ruffle sleeves, lace tights and a feather headband. And to spice up the black-on-black-on-black, try high-backed silver pumps and vintage-inspired drop earrings.

If you studied fashion design/history, you would know that those tacky shoes and headband are far from Edwardian. I agree, promote local fashion and business. There are many local stores that sell vintage and /or retro inspired clothing and accessories. This is one of the worst "fashion" articles I have ever seen from 7x7.

Dear "Anonymous"
It's never tacky to promote local artists: of course I own Swankety Swank- I am not "anonymous", but very open about that. Our prices are *real* since we only carry things made locally. Cheap prices will be "paid for" on the backs of future generations and on the backs of people who do the slave labor. Things made overseas and shipped here are ruining our Earth and not supporting our local economy.
Edward Gorey just rolled over in his grave. Whatever happened to doing a little bit of research on an event and its theme?
Instead of dropping $65 on a tacky "LBD" and totally ridiculous shoes, for that same money you could buy a much more theme appropriate dress at a vintage clothing store, wear dark eyeliner and actually look like an Amphigorey character, or a charming Gibson girl.
Never in the massive catalogue of images and illustrations from the Belle Époque have I ever seen silver spiked pumps.
Edwardian: Yr doing it wrong.
By the way, it's not very classy to promote the store you own yourself on here, if you're mad about the economy lower your prices @ Skankety Skank.
Wow. I thought the outfit above was beautiful and *inexpensive* which is where my money lays. You need to take a deep breath and keep that old saying @ your fingertips: "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say it at all".
I know I spelled "economies" incorrectly.
I'm glad you actually mentioned Edwardian Ball, but it's very disappointing that you promote places like Forever 21, Express and other slave labor, cheap corporate crap.
If you truly represented SF, you would have done a corset remix with a Darina Drapkin corset from Swankety Swank or Dark Garden, pants from The Loft and a miranda caroligne shirt with super hot urban Venus Superstar jewelry from Backspace.
Why can't a magazine talking about fashion that represents a city promote that city's work? This is why our local economy's are in trouble.
