Step right up for a night of circus fun inspired by the Academy’s marvelous menagerie of creatures!
On May 2nd, get into the spirit and play good old-fashioned carnival games amongst roaming jugglers and gymnasts from Velocity Circus, and animal-themed Burning Man sculptures including Dusty Rhino. The experts at Circus of Smiles will teach you all the tricks of the trade: how to juggle, make masks, and otherwise fit in with the circus-y crowd.
Then transform yourself into a bearded lady or half-man-half-tiger at a face painting station—and what better way to intimidate the competition in a round of Berlin-style ping pong? Academy scientists will bring out some of their favorite sideshow-worthy specimens, including weird worms, a four-horned sheep skull, and a two-headed snake skeleton. Music is presented by Popscene, including performances by Seattle-based groups Beat Connection and ODESZA, plus a DJ set by Aaron Axelsen.
