Head over to the East Bay after work this Friday and enjoy some sun, food, and fine music as EatUp returns to Oakland. A gathering of fine gourmet food trucks including Curry Up Now, Twister Truck and Sweet Treat Stop will all be there serving up fantastic street food. Last Friday was absolutely packed with people, and this week promises to be the same with local DJs providing music and artists on site to entertain the masses. Come along and watch a renowned chef take you on a culinary adventure around the world. This weekend chef Hoss Zaré (Zaré at Fly Trap) will take people on a meatball journey. With stops in Italy, Iran and beyond Zaré will leave you feeling inspired to explore the flavors and foods of different cultures. Guests will be offered a taste of each dish. Over in the Fillmore district summer is officially getting underway with the 5th annual Fillmore Summerfest Kick-Off; Grilling in the 'Mo. There will be plenty of free food and live entertainment at this family BBQ along with great jazz music by the Adrian Costa Blues Persuasion Band, Soul Mechanix Rhythm and Blues Band and many more. For those with kids there will be face painting, jumping castles, and numerous other family activities to keep the kids entertained. Ram’s Gate Winery in Sonoma, a mere 35 minutes outside the city, is having a special lunch hosted by Bi-Rite owner and author, Sam Mogannam. The three course meal will showcase inspired spring recipes from Mogannam’s book such as Pan-Seared Wild Salmon, Olive Oil Sabayon and a delicious dessert of Blueberry Buttermilk Upside-Down Cake with Bi-Rite Creamery Ice Cream. The lunch begins at 12pm and goes until 2:30. Tickets cost $75 and include two glasses of wine and a copy of Mogannam’s new book. They can be purchased here. CUESA are offering people a virtual tour of successful urban farms around the country with brothers David and Michael Hanson, author and photographer for the book Breaking Through Concrete. The tour will showcase how urban farming is transforming our national food system and ends off with book signings and a reception with refreshments from a farmers market.
