When it comes to the perfect manicure for PRIDE, rainbows are so last decade. Add a little high-art flair to your nail beds this year courtesy of SFMoMA, the Asian Art Museum, and Top Coat. The trio have joined forces to offer stunning artworks/manicures just in time for this weekend's SF PRIDE celebrations.
"Gorgeous," the new exhibit from SFMoMA and the Asian Art Museum, features works that subvert or extend conventional iconography associated with beauty, spanning hundreds of years and over several continents. As part of the exhibit, the museums commissioned local nail gurus TopCoat Nails (think Uber for manicures) to craft nail designs inspired by the show's overriding aesthetic. As evidenced, the resulting photos are unsettling, gorgeous, and gritty—literally. Dirt mingles with pristine tips and toes, rebuffing the notion of the antispectic beauty process you might find at your favorite nail salon.
But don't worry—you don't have to get dirty to get a "Gorgeous" manicure. TopCoat will offer nail designs similar to those in the exhibition at their studio (Crocker Galleria, 50 Post Street, 2nd Floor) as well as free on-site paintings at the Asian Art Museum on July 10, August 7, and September 4. Now go show off those jazz hands.
