La Boulangerie Opens an Au Lait Bar, Instacart Expands to Wine Country + More Foodie Happenings

When you've worked up an appetite, make this your go-to list this week.

When in Rome

Pasta lover and Rome-based cookbook author Katie Parla is giving a talk at UC Berkeley on her forthcoming untitled cookbook to do with the cuisine of Southern Italy. She'll speak about the lost and disappearing dishes of the region, and do a short Q&A moderated by Professor Danielle Callegari of the Italian Studies department. // 5-7pm, Thurs. Sept. 7 at UC Berkeley, Dwinelle Hall 370, (Berkeley),

Burger Night at Fiorella

Because burgers make everything better, Chef Dante Cecchini (formerly of Marlowe), is bringing his own version to the table at Fiorella, the Outer Richmond eatery usually known for its small plates and pizza. Sink your teeth into six ounces of B&N Ranch ground beef topped with American cheese, Fiorella;s "special sauce," sour pickle, butter lettuce, and grilled onions all on a poppy seed bun. Bonus points for the crinkle cut fries. // 2339 Clement St (Outer Richmond),

Instacart for All!

Everyone deserves excellent grocery delivery. Last week, San Francisco–based Instacart announced expanded service to include households in Wine Country and Contra Costa County, as well as even more territory in the East and North Bay. That's right, now all you folks in Napa, Fairfield, Vallejo, Hayward and beyond can have your organic unsweetened almond milk delivered same day to your door. //

Au Lait!

La Boulangerie is really back in the swing of thing. Its 7th location, which opened in FiDi last Tuesday, is primed for pre-work breakfast with a large bakery assortment, quiche, and croque monsieur, as well as grab and go sandwiches and salads for lunch. All new is the DIY Au Lait bar: Grab your choice of coffee or tea, and dress it up with milk and a housemade simple syrups such as 65% dark French chocolate, double mint, or malted vanilla. // La Boulangerie, 655 Montgomery St (FiDi),

Get Happy at Laszlo

One more reason to grab drinks at Laszlo: Now during happy hour (4-6pm) Mondays through Thursdays, the bar is serving $4 Shiner Bocks and $7 specialty cocktails. Order the Evan Williams Presbyterian Highball or an Aylesbury Duck Moscow Mule created by bar manager Nicky Beyries. Best of all? Free snacks! // 2526 Mission St. (Mission),

Wine and Dine @ Alta

As part of Alta's ongoing Meet the Winemaker series, hosted the last Friday of every month, the restaurant will welcome Damien Reusch, of Phifer Pavitt Winery, this week. Reusch will be pouring complimentary tastes of 2013 Cabernet and 2016 Sauvignon Blanc. There'll be an option to buy a glass at the bar and during dinner that night. // 4-6pm, Friday, Sept.1 at Alta, 1275 Minnesota St. (Dogpatch),
