Lions and Tigers and Bears at the SF SPCA's Halloween Bash

The eve before Halloween, Bay Area animal lovers and their furry friends gathered at the San Francisco SPCA’s Mission Campus for “There’s No Place Like Home,” a costume party for two-legged and four-legged (and even some three-legged) guests. Many families coordinated costumes with their pets (a la Princess Leia and Chewbacca), while others let their pet bask alone in the fancy-dress limelight.

Guests sipped cocktails as well as beer from local favorite Lagunitas Brewing Company—bar proceeds benefitted the SF SPCA. And since no party is complete without a few selfies, guests and their pooches struck a pose in their costumes at the SnapFiesta photobooth, which was overflowing with props and manned by Sephora makeup artists ready to provide both everyday and Halloween-themed makeup looks. After getting touched up and decked out, attendees hammed it up for the camera. The clear highlight of the evening was the appearance of Instagram celebrity @tunameltsmyheart, who displayed his trademark overbite as he posed with guests alongside a 2015 Subaru Forester.

The event also served as the perfect platform to introduce PawScout, the SF SPCA’s new program that uses digital and social technology to track the whereabouts of animals to ensure they always find their way home—just like Dorothy and Toto in The Wizard of Oz. But the event's best treat was the adoption of animals into new homes, thanks to the open arms of guests and waived adoption fees. Between the adoptions, adorable pet costumes, and overall festive feel, the SF SPCA’s “There’s No Place Like Home” bash kicked off Halloween with a heartwarming bang.
