Shopping locally for the holiday season is easy at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market. Everything you need from decorations and recipes for your holiday gatherings to gifts for your friends and family can be found each week at the market. Here are some ideas to get you in the spirit:
Christmas Cake- Each one of these seasonal treats from June Taylor is made by hand using fruits from local farms macerated in aged private reserve port from St George Spirits. Enjoyed with tea or a nice glass of sherry, June’s version will put to rest any prejudices you may have against this holiday classic.
Honey and other bee products – Fresh local honey or beeswax candles can be found at Marshall’s Farm or Snyders Honey. Honey and fresh honeycomb also are a great accompaniment to a rich creamy cheese platter and when paired together make a nice host or hostess gift.
Jams & Preserves– Some of my personal favorites include the lemon curd at Glashoff’s Farm, peach chutney from Frog Hollow Farms and the plum cinnamon jam from Happy Girl Kitchen.
Oranges – Revive the tradition of stuffing oranges in stockings! Clementine and Satsuma mandarins and navel oranges make sweet, sustainable stocking stuffers. Some of the best of this year’s crop have just started showing up at Olsen Organic.
Wreaths & holiday decorations – Silver tip Christmas trees, pine cones and holiday schwag from Double K Tree Farm will be at the market December 3rd and December 10th. You can also score a variety of holiday wreaths from Cypress Flower Farm, Devoto Gardens and Thomas Farms throughout the month of December.
