James Kent's The Secret Diaries of Miss Anne Lister – a BBC-produced period drama about an English gentlewoman who prefers the fairer sex – opens Frameline34, the 2010 edition of the San Francisco International LGBT Film Festival, tonight at the Castro Theatre. Tickets for the 7 p.m. screening are no longer available for online purchase, but those eager to attend can try their luck at the Castro box office.
An decadent Opening Night Gala, featuring gourmet hors d'oeuvres, premium cocktails and fine wines, will follow at the San Francisco Botanical Garden Society. The two hours of raucous festivities kick off at 10 p.m. The Garden Society, located at the intersection of 9th Avenue and Lincoln Way, will also host the festival's Closing Night celebration on Sunday, June 27. Founded in 1977, the LGBT Film Festival is the longest-running and largest LGBT film exhibition in the world. Boasting an annual attendance of roughly 60,000, Frameline also presents year-round exhibitions, including Frameline at The Center, a free film series highlighting socially relevant shorts and full-length features. Year-round programs also include members-only screenings and events hosted by directors, actors and other queer media icons.
