As reported a while ago on Apartment Therapy, Shabby Chic, the quinessential early 90s decor brand famous for comfy couches and white-washed "French Country"-inspired furniture, filed for bankruptcy. Blame it on the economy or the public's shift towards a more minimalist aesthetic, but owner Rachel Ashwell (who first hoped to maintain some of the stores) has now had to shut down the whole operation. Shabby Chic is no more! Well, almost no more; you can still get deeply discounted items from any number of the stores still liquidating merchandise, like the location on Fillmore in SF. We stopped by the other day and saw all items marked from 30 to maybe 50% off, including fixtures. We imagine the prices will continue to slide in the next few weeks, but if you want the best selection it would behoove you to get over there ASAP. Shabby Chic is located at 2185 Fillmore St (at Sacramento).
